In comes Google AdSense

There are many WordPress plugins to help you put Google Ads onto your blog. This is not one of those plugins. Have you ever noticed that the ads on your site are not that relevant to the post in which they are showing? This is a normal problem, because Google tries to read your entire page to get the best ad for your site.

Example

If I did not use this code on my site, you would see all ads for someone named Jim. Since my name is all over the website, and I did not tell Google what I want for ads, they think I want ads for the name “Jim”. I don’t obviously.

So how do you tell Google which ads to serve on your blog?

Easy, there are two lines of code you should add inside the HTML of your single post to achieve this.

  • <!– google_ad_section_start –> : Put this before the content that has the relevant text you want for ads
  • <!– google_ad_section_end –> : Put this after the content that has the relevant text you want for ads

If you are familiar with editing code, you can put this before and after the WordPress hook “the_content()”

Advanced AdSense WordPress Plugin

For those of you who do not code very well, but can install a WordPress plugin, just download this little plugin I created. Just activate the plugin and go to the options screen. From there you only have 2 options

Content or Tags

I created the plugin so that you could tell Google to use your Tags or the Content of your post for the advertisements. I hope you like it…

This is truly on of those times I’m tearing my hair over something. I came up with the exact same idea a few days ago, after reading a post on Google targeted sections, and started to write a similar plugin until I found you yesterday. Well, good job. I’m sure this plugin will become very popular.

  9. Stefan says:

That is great Jim and I am sure it will continue to raise.

  10. I already knew about adsense section targetting, but never know that a plugin existed for this also!!! Thanks, it will make my job easier than manually editing the wordpress template files!

  11. It's great. Thanks 4 your plugin. I want to it in my blog. Thanks again.

  12. @ Qie, No problem, thanks for downloading. Please let me know if it helps you..

Jim – I am looking for a way to display adsesne at the top of a page in my wordpress blog. Can you plugin do this?

  14. Al, sorry. My plugin will not display any ads for you, but will make your ads more relevant to your Content or Tags. If you would like some help learning how to put the ads on the top of your site. I took a quick look at your site and I guess you are looking to put the ad on top of each post, or a big banner at the very top. I can help you with both of these if you want, for free! Just email me and we can talk. theone [at] thejimgaudet [dot] com

how does this plugin help in determining position of ads. i don’t find such option

    • Jim Gaudet says:

      Ayman,

This plugin only tells Google what you would like for ads based on the content or the tags, making the advertisement more relative. For positioning, you would need to edit your WordPress theme.. Once logged in, fine Appearance on the left and then Editor. You are looking for your single.php (normal place for ads), then you can manually ad your Google ad code in here. If you want a plugin to do it for you, I would just search Google for “google adsense plugin for wordpress

I hope that helps, maybe I should plan an upgrade to this plugin.

  18. kocht says:

Hi Jim nice plugin, I would like to ask you if I can target multiple parts or even single words of the content in my pages…

    • Jim Gaudet says:

At the moment my plugin does not offer that option. But, that is a good idea. What I would do, if I were you, is manually add the code (as it says in this post) if you would like to use your own keywords. With WordPress you could do this per category, post, page or whatever.

If you would like specific help, just send me an email…
