Costa Rica Sunset

A while ago I wrote a post named Why Costa Rica. In that post you will see why I decided to move to wonderful Costa Rica. There are a plethora (I don’t know why, but I love that word) of reasons to move here including;

  • The Weather – Check it out, on average 75 all year long
  • The People – So far everyone has been great
  • It’s Cheap – $20 at a bar will get you drunk
  • Girls,Girls and Girls

There is a small problem

Costa Rica Visa Information

Nicaragua SunsetBesides some Earthquakes, the only other problem I have is that I live without a visa. What does this mean? Well, it’s really simple actually, without a visa to Costa Rica you are allowed to stay here for 90 days (if you are from the US). After your 90 days, you must leave the country for 3 days before you can return. If you would like some official visa information you can go to these sites;

There is a positive side to not needing a visa to travel to Costa Rica. In my eyes I have a forced vacation every 3 months. Depending on where I want to go and how much time I can take off from my businesses helps me decide where to go. The obvious places to visit are to the north and south of Costa Rica. To the north we have Nicaragua (the picture you see to the right) and to the south we have Panama. I have not been to Panama yet, but can tell you that Nicaragua was great. In fact, I am traveling there this weekend.

I hope this info can help if anyone is planning a visit to Central America. Do you have any questions? Need some more information on Costa Rica? Just add a comment below.

    A holiday every 3 months, that's what I am talking about. Costa Rica is by far the easiest country to live in for non-residents

    Fuckin A'…you can't complain with forced vacations!

    Thanks, I enjoyed reading your post. It’s nice to see someone writing something worth reading.

    What about the crime rate? I am considering migrating (shhh…!) and am looking at a list of nice countries to move to. Why don't you apply for a visa? Having to pack my bags and leave every 3 months would certainly bug me – I hate travelling (too obsessive about germs, viruses, bedbugs & general cleanliness).

    Another good place you can consider moving to is where I live now – Singapore. It's great if you're a foreigner living here as an expat, but not so great if you're a local. Asian girls galore & party lifestyle – Singapore never sleeps!

  5. Crime Rate: Look, this place is no worse than any state in the US. There are bad places, especially near San Jose and the tourist beaches. But you have that anywhere. I am in Heredia and it's pretty nice.
    Visa: It's is a pain in the ASS and takes a long time, maybe I will just wait until I marry a Tica :) I only have to leave for 3 days, so I can take a flight to Panama and party for the weekend and come back. I have an apartment so I don't need to pack much for a small trip.

    I hear Singapore is one of the top ten places to live in the world. It must be nice. Some of the richest people live there.. Hey wait, are you rich?

    Haha, that’s a good one! Yes it’s true (the part about the richest people living here, not the part about me being rich!) – Jim Rogers making Singapore his new home just about says it all about Singapore’s low taxes & zero tax on capital gains – http://www.nysun.com/business/bull-in-china-leaving-new-york-for-singapore/61856/

    It’s only nice to live here if you’re rich (or white). If you’re a struggling middle class artisan (aka bum) like me, the Singapore of today can be quite a dump. No minimum wage, no social security, no say in politics, etc. The country gives you nothing, yet expects everything out of you. The term “2nd-class citizen” comes to mind. This article sums it all re the mindsets of “original” Singaporeans (i.e. those who have lived here all our lives) – http://www.insideoutchina.com/2009/05/vertigo-of-foreign-born-chinese.html

    Just looking for a better country to be a bum in. lol

      Zero Capital Tax Gains, that’s nice.

      “The internet in Singapore is also censored somewhat but not as comprehensively and severely as in China”

      I wonder what the censorships are there.

    Hi Jim,

    I am curious, been hearing a lot about the new immigration laws in CR, is it going to be as bad as I’ve been reading? A new police force to deal with immigration issues AND enforce the perpetual tourist issue? If that’s true, it’s going to be as bad as the US I fear. It’s like the evil of the US is spreading and there’s no escaping it. =/

    • Jim Gaudet says:

      @Katelyn : It seems from the law that they will be taking police officers to start the new immigration police. I am not too sure how much they will complain to the “perpetual tourists”, but we will see. I try to spend a lot of time on http://www.therealcostarica.com because there is a plethora of great info there for anyone interested in moving to or living in Costa Rica
