Earthquakes (How to monitor earthquakes in your area)

Earthquakes
This picture is part of the devastation from the last big earthquake we had in Costa Rica. The epicenter was only 22 kilometers from my home. The earthquake was a 6.1 magnitude and shook my apartment for more than 30 seconds. Immediately afterward I searched Google to find out what the size was and whether we could expect more. After a little searching I found the USGS (United States Geological Survey). At this site you can monitor all the worlds earthquakes as they are happening. It was after visiting this site did I notice how many earthquakes we have here in Costa Rica. We had 7 earthquakes just that day, and almost 5 per day for the current week.
Google to the Rescue
Today Google announced on their blog that they are going to assist searchers in their attempts to find out about current earthquakes.
Now, when you search for “earthquakes” on Google, you’ll get information on some of the most recent, significant earthquakes from around the world, right on the search results page. From there, you can click through to the USGS Earthquake Center for more information, or visit the epicenter of any quake on Google Maps. To find earthquakes closer to home, you can add a location to your query, for example: “earthquakes California.”
Now we all know that when you search Google you will get OLD information and that is a problem. So I assume this is why they are doing this, and kudos for them. Now I can go to Google and search for “earthquakes Costa Rica” and get the latest info on our never ending stream of earthquakes here.

Great info and a cool new Google feature, Now if only the power wouldn't turn off with the next earthquake I could actually use this feature!
Yeah, I guess I didn't think about power loss..
I've never lived in an area that experienced earthquakes…or least not to my knowledge. It's amazing what you can find out about earthquakes. What does Google not offer?
Where I live, we have hurricanes and warnings are frequent, but hurricanes can also fool the forecasters. While you can usually escape a hurricane, it doesn't mean you escape its devastation. It's amazing the power of these storms. How much warning do you get for an earthquake?
Thanks for the information :~)
What Google had not offered in the past was an up to the minute information section. You see, Google traffic has to be indexed, and then it gets ranked and it can take a while to get to the top of the ranking so the newest news is sometimes a few hours old.
I have noticed that Twitter searches had immediate results, so if you are look for the earthquake in Australia you could search Twitter and maybe see people talk who are physically there.
It seems that Google will be a way to search for information, like a library. And we will find a Real Time Web Search Engine that will search Twitter and Tumblr and the others for more recent information.
We just had a new earthquake 4 minutes ago, I did not feel anything but some of our building were evacuated…not my case since I'm sitting here “googleing” for information!
this is some great info!!
Thanks :O)

That trick with the earthquakes search on Google only works for states where there are frequent earthquakes, like California, Oregon and Alaska.
Thanks for the update. It is working on google.co.cr for me when I search for “earthquakes costa rica”
I live in Oklahoma, and while we don't have big Earthquakes, we did have a 3.4 the other day and when I search for “earthquakes oklahoma” I don't get the same information as if I search for “earthquakes oregon” :)
that's interesting data. thanks :)
I live in a country included in the earthquake belt and this service of google is a big help. Thanks a lot!
well i’m sure some of it is natural ,but i saw a program on 1 of those learning channels, countries today have these special low-frequency,antennas,which emit radiowaves at the ionisphere and they bounce back to earth and also creat a bubble in the ionisphere…well these waves create a change a change in the jet streams and with these radio waves ,they can create floods-tsunamis-earthquakes-hurricaines-tornadoes-droughts..and they can do it all over the world..at any time…and they cannot trace which country is doing it…russia was supposed to have, had the first antenna, back in 1989,but now there are 145 of them, all across the world, our government is getting so good at using them..that they are now using them to conjur up elrctric storms, during air-to-air military strikes in order to play havoc on the computer systems of today’s military equipment..!..but all our diplomats care about is dead-beat-dads-pedophiles-and raising taxes..!..good luck to all of us poor/common americans.
Wow, that is interesting…I think it is called HAARP not sure about it, but I would like to watch that documentary.
