Should Weed be Legal?

This has really been going on long enough. I thought I knew the stats, but this movie will really open your eyes about the Business behind Getting High. California is making a lot of headlines lately with their talks about taxing marijuana.

From Taxing Marijuana by Chris Weigant

A recent poll showed that 56% of California voters already approve of the concept of legalizing and taxing marijuana for personal, recreational use.

It is pretty clear from the statistics and from my own personal experience that weed just is not bad. The claims about it being unhealthy are not backed up. There is no proof that your brain cells are destroyed. I can tell you one truth about weed though;

Marijuana is the Gateway Drug to the Kitchen

If anything, the biggest health problem that can be related to marijuana is binge eating. You are guaranteed to want to raid whatever you have in your fridge, and maybe take a nap.

The Union

You can watch this movie right here! This movie plans to answer the following questions;

  • Why is marijuana illegal?
  • What health risks do we really face?
  • Does prohibition work?
  • What would happen if we taxed it?
  • Medicine, paper, fuel, textiles, food, etc. Are we missing something here?

By the way, Joe Rogan is great in this. It’s 1 hour and 44 minutes…

  1. What a mean thing to do to monkeys, those freaking jerks.

Watched the first 45 mins, compelling will have to come back.

    BC Bud, eh? Whoo-hoo.

  2. Seraphine says:

it’s already legal in california for ‘medical’ use, although state law conflicts with federal law.

    • Jim Gaudet says:

@Seraphine : Yes it is, but I think that the feds are still busting “legal” shops. Once it is a real taxable income, I hope it will spread like wildfire…

  3. Seraphine says:

in california’s mendocino county, there is serious discussion about how much income marijuana could generate for local government. i *think* it’s the biggest revenue generator in the county.

    • Jim Gaudet says:

The money made from taxes alone, but not to mention the new businesses that would pop up. As well as old businesses, finally able to use industrial hemp to its fullest potential..

SO GOOD. We Need to end prohibition!!

  6. Thank you for commenting Jasmine, and you are correct.

  7. kyled says:

So good! I will probably never smoke marijuana, but I think that the people who want to should have the freedom to do so. Seriously, why is marijuana illegal, but tobacco and alcohol, with all of their harmful and destructive properties, part of American life?

  8. They can't make money on it, so it will not be legal. The problem is that we can grow it in our homes and they could not regulate it, like drugs and alcohol…

    • Random guy says:

You can technically grow your own tobacco and make your own alcohol at home, you know.

And they can make money off of it. Easily. In fact they’re doing it right now in California.

  9. josh says:

marijuana is God's gift and i feel like we should treat it like it should be treated…..

  14. jake brechbill says:

my friend just got a possession charge a 700 dollar ticket and over 50 hours of community service…thats so bullshit when its something that could be doing so much for our world in so many ways. but they have to make money off it some way right?

    • Jim Gaudet says:

      Jake,

And they already make so much money through incarcerating people. Do you know how many people are in prison for weed? It’s the majority of the population…

  15. If it’s not hurting anybody, what’s the big deal

  16. Magz says:

  17. Sean Kernighan says:

The only thing I can say is when my doctor diagnosed me with epilipsy and prescribe me dilantin, from that day forth I smoked marijuana. All I can say is it’s a nitro-gylserin for seizures for me.(Aura… Toke…. No Epiliptic Fit)

  18. Zach Nord says:

This movie is the the greatest Ive ever seen. The world needs to watch this and the government needs to act now…

  19. Gateway drug to the kitchen, haha love that! I’m going to pass this on. Thanks for sharing!

  20. This movie is really good. Hopefully more and more movies and positive talks and discussions about this herbalicious plant will make it past the tipping point in the legalization battle. Keep spreading the good word.

  21. BCkills says:

If after watching this video you now believe in the legalization of weed you should consider the following.
This is 1 hour 44 of propaganda – it only shows one side of the argument.
Some of the points it makes are a bit iffy, and some I disagree with:
There are no proven withdrawal effects? There are plenty of people I know who want to quit smoking weed and cant and there is no other time I want a spiff more than ever when I have run out of weed.
Oh, and also smoking weed has no direct bad effects on the body bar that of smoke itself – so what about the proven fact that long term use leads to a build up of acid in the brain causing damage which is irreversible.
Don’t get me wrong I enjoy smoking weed, I don’t enjoy the paranoia and I can’t see how you can say there is no direct harm.

There are allot of very old American propaganda which was wrong at the time, these are NOT current attitudes towards weed. Weed is illegal for many other reasons not given and some of the reasons this video dose give for weed being illegal are ridicules.
The more argument I see the more I see that is wrong with what they are saying (or ignoring)
All of the arguments about how weed being illegal causes crime to produce it can also be applied to crack or heroin – and dose not make the crime behind weed ok.
And suggesting that weed is illegal because pharmaceutical companies are afraid they will loose money because weed is a natural remedy to allot of the things they make drugs for is as absolutely obscene as trying to compare the American prohibition of alcohol to the law against weed.
Using hemp instead of trees to make paper will solve deforestation is actually crazy.
And after listening to a “scientist” talk about quarks I question how much science he actually knows.

I’m not trying to say weed is bad and I regularly enjoy smoking weed BUT this video is heavily bias propaganda and you should not look at these strong opinions as fact and the majority of people believe it should be illegal – FACT.

    • Jim Gaudet says:

May I ask you where are your facts? You are just writing them down here, like you are an authority, but you haven’t shown me any proof for any of your words…

  22. Christian Alonso says:

Great documentary change my mind about the use of marijuana

  23. Joe Smith says:

My dad just caught me smoking.

He is ultra-conservative so I’m going to sit him down and calmly tell him I would like him to watch this before he yells at me.
