Scheduling your Blog Posts
Blog Schedule
I have decided to start paying attention to my blog, well more attention anyway. I started my blog at first like most people, just to have one. Now I see there is potential in the traffic I get, especially in the form of engagement. With that in mind, I feel that I should try and focus the content I write as well as being more consistent.
To be more focused and consistent I felt I needed to schedule my blog time. I have done this only in my spare time so far, and since I haven’t had much of that lately I have not written anything.
The first step in creating my blog schedule was to find my blogs focus points. What do I want my site to be about?
- Costa Rica – 2 Posts per week ( Monday and Friday )
- SEO – 1 Post per week ( Tuesday )
- Web Design – 1 Post per week ( Thursday )
Costa Rica
Well, I moved here and I am here to stay. Why shouldn’t this be the most important thing in my life? I will take photos whenever I can and add stories to go along with them.
SEO
I am just getting into this, so having it fresh in my mind daily makes this an area of interest for me. Don’t expect expert advice, I have no official certification for search engine optimization, but I do study a lot and use the Internet to gather free information. I only like to spread the information that I have learned.
Web Design
This is where I plan to make my living in the future. My laid back, relaxing on the beach in Costa Rica future! I don’t want to be working my ass off, I just want to pick up some local work to keep me a little busy, so I don’t lose my mind. You will see posts about PHP, MySQL, or any other open source project that I come across and think may be useful.
SEO Benefits
First, focusing my blog will attract the users I want. I will be filling my site with all the relevant content needed to train Google on what my site is all about. This is important! While I do not plan on doing web design in Costa Rica for a couple years, I can’t expect to open a new website and just get the traffic right away. I will be building years worth of content to help me get the directed traffic I want, and when I am ready I will offer my services.
What’s your plan? Do you schedule your blog posts, or just write them on the fly?

Hi Jim – I write mine by the seat of my pants. LOL! Seriously, I find scheduling them leads to block. I just can’t be trusted to be sufficiently processing a topic in time to turn it into a post. I admire your disciplined approach, but it just wouldn’t work for me. Sigh.
@Betsy : I have been doing that too, but noticing that I can go two weeks without doing anything, and that’s bad in Google’s eyes. I am going to start actively looking for people that would like to guest post on my blog. To try and trim my work load..
I am hoping I can keep to my schedule. We will see. I am already wondering what the heck I will write about for tomorrow… :)
Hey Jim,
I haven’t been around as much lately but I wanted to stop in to say hello. I hope this works for you. I did better when I went by a schedule. I am trying to do the same with my photo blog.
@Tammy : Yeah, me too. I have been disconnected for a while now. I hope your schedule works for you too, I have to write a post today and I have so much work to do…
Hey Jim…As the ultimate procrastinator, I can say that this has been something I’ve been planning on doing for a while now. I’m like you, if I don’t force myself to sit down and write I could go for days without updating my blog…and that has not been so nice for my ranking.
Good luck to you on the scheduling! Love the new look of your site and the SEO Benefits box at the end of the post. Great touch!
@Coree : Still working on a post for today, ha. At least it will be written on Thursday, but maybe not read until Friday. Thanks, I am happy to say that I created my own theme, although it is a bit bare, it is mine.. :)
Good focus can make or break you as a blogger. Blogging is much more than just writing up a quick post, it’s about learning, growing, making contacts, reading other blogs, developing a good writing style and voice, etc.
A good time management schedule can help, good job. I look forward to what you come up with in the future.
@John : Right now I am working on pre-writing my posts and scheduling them to be published. So I don’t have to write anything last minute.
It may take a month or two, but I should have a good amount of space for projects, if I plan it properly. :)
