Why are you here?
Did you Stumble here?
If so, please don’t leave!
I have a love / hate relationship with StumbleUpon.com. I love them because they drive traffic to my site, and by far the most traffic. I hate them because they almost never stay on my site. They almost never comment on my site, and they NEVER click on my advertisements. I really don’t care about the advertisements, but it would be nice…
Let’s start a New Trend
I need all visitor’s to help me in a personal study of my statistics. Using Wordpress and Google I can see how many users come to this post and where they come from. I want to get Stumblers to stop clicking that Stumble! button so fast and try to read content. I believe that it is more fun to involve yourself in the conversations rather than just absorbing knowledge and leaving…
My Stats
stumbleupon.com (referral) | 3,069 | 65.26% |
digg.com (referral) | 475 | 10.10% |

google (organic) | 348 | 7.40% |
reddit.com (referral) | 178 | 3.78% |
Add Your Comment
In order for me to test my theory I need everyone who comes to this post to just add a comment at the bottom telling me how you ended up on the post.
- Did you Stumble here?
- Did you find me on a Google search?
- Are you a subscriber?
- How about Mixx.com
Trust Me
Going to Digg.com and checking the most popular stories and aimlessly digging thousands os stories is boring. You are not experiencing the Internet to its potential. What I noticed is that once you find some decent blogs and subscribe to them, you will have a a better experience. Check out these blogs that frequent my blog;

Sorry no one clicks on your adverts… actually I just did an impromptu poll of all of the people here at work – and no one clicks on online adverts on any site unless it’s an accident. Just the way the world works. People who make money on ads usually have bots doing the clicking. It’s all a sham. If someone wants a product or service they find it via search and reviews, not from an annoying ad on a random blog.
If you run your site to make money, then you need to find an actual business model capable of making money.
I don’t try to hard to put ads on the site. I could probably spend time on it and get better results but it just isn’t that important.
I found your site because a friend gave me the link and told me to check it out. Honestly a stayed longer because you asked me to and Yes I did click on your ads (they just seemed interesting). And now I will stumble for you!!

Cool post. I am now thankfully a subscriber. But you probably already knew that.
Also: I plan to keep Stumbling your site until I no longer like you :)
No doubt somewhere in there you will find new, more permanent, readers.

@Marc – Please don’t click my ads because I talked about (I mean don’t tell me about it). I think Google will spank me… Thanks for the Stumble
@Dereck – Let’s hope I don’t do anything to offend you (not too bad). I have been Stumbling your site too. Thx!
Too late. You just offended me.
(kidding) :)

@Jim & Dereck: I was going to make a reference to a stumble-circle-jerk…but then I realized I’ve been stumbling too…hoo-boy.
I’m a believer that StumbleUpon can drive traffic…but it’s hard to gain readers because clicking the damn button is such an addiction. The people who really benefit from StumbleUpon are the people who have blogs and fantastic stumbles…so that really doesn’t benefit us bloggers at all (I think that’s the first time I’ve referred to us as bloggers).
Thanks for the plug! I swear to god I won’t be clicking on your adverts though! I’ve actually gone months without seeing advertisements on the internet because I have NoScript or Adblock or whatever it is. I’m not that into them.
The most traffic I’ve ever driven to my site is having (kind-of) good content mixed with a large amount of commenting. You have to go quid pro quo to build a community.
Yes, I can also related to this.
As for how I laded here…. via a comment you made on another blog post ;-0)

@Matthew – Stumble-Circle-Jerk and Masturbating to Google Analtyic (I wonder what “Google Sees”) when reading this post…
I guess I was adding the bit about advertising because of Cath Lawson (http://cathlawson.com/blog/) wrote about the other day. She was talking about the sale of bankaholic.com for $15 million. Then I read about a your girl who is a millionaire basically from AdSense, but she gets 60 million page views a month.
I don’t plan on my blog making me any money, but I do plan on selling a website at some point for a ton of money.
BTW there are no ads in this post, there are the standard in the sidebar though.
I just got here the old way – through a link on someone’s blogroll. Don’t ask me who though… I honestly don’t remember by now, as I browse using tabs and have over a dozen of them open atm. It’s late here now too, and my eyes look a bit like the eye in your scary stumble image ;)
I would have dug and stumbled you if I could remember the login to my accounts there :p
@Israeli Mom – No worries on the digg and stumble. Thanks for commenting! I tried to check out your site but could not connect, hopefully that means you are overwhelmed with traffic.
I found your site because you left a comment on my blog. I also thumbed up this post for you as well, because I’m nice like that. I’m also going to click on your ads. Take that stupid other StumbleUpon users that suck!

my stumble account was just suspended so I’m kinda miffed at them. I know a lot of people say it, but I really don’t know why it was locked down.
@design – Sounds like Stumble is starting to act like Digg. I hope that is not so, as I like to hit the Stumble button when I am bored.
You responded to a post on another blog and I found you by way of their site. Don’t have the time to go through your blog right now, but I will definitely come back soon. Promise. :)
